     Sam’s Sweets began as a way to reconnect with the passions I loved when I was younger. As a child and teenager, I enjoyed baking, singing, playing piano, drawing, and more, but over time I drifted away from many of those interests—partly because of growing responsibilities and largely because of drinking. I got sober on February 16, 2023, and during my first year of sobriety, I started returning to the hobbies that once brought me joy. While drawing and piano no longer came as easily, baking felt natural again. I began making birthday cakes for my daughter and tried macarons for the first time. They can be temperamental, but I truly enjoy the process. 

     I often brought treats to work and AA meetings, which led someone to ask whether I had ever considered becoming a baker. At first, I said no, but the idea stayed with me. In 2025, I finally felt ready to pursue it. The name Sam’s Sweets came from one of my employees, who, ironically, had also been the bartender. He helped me understand the first steps, and last year I created an LLC, bought my domain, and began researching how to turn the idea into a business.

    After I created my LLC, life quickly became busy with a new job, new challenges, and new schools, so the bakery idea had to move to the back burner. Managing a sports bar kitchen did not leave much room to start on my own. Late in 2025, I found a Monday-through-Friday pharmacy job from 8 to 4, which finally gave me the time to focus on building a business. Over the past year, I have researched, learned, talked with other small business owners, and considered what would work best for me. I believe I have found my path in cakes, macarons, and patisserie sold at events throughout the year.
